Public Volunteers Medical and Legal Aid Project
In countries such as the UK, free medical and legal help is often taken for granted. In North Cyprus the underprivileged are not so fortunate. There is nothing resembling a National Health Service or Legal Aid.
In 2011, Advocate Mustafa Sener along with a qualified doctor established the Public Volunteers Project to provide medical and legal aid to those who need it most.
The main activity of the organization is a mobile lawyer and doctor service to rural or developing areas of the island, giving free legal advice to those who are unable to attend city offices, organizing operations and even providing on-the-spot medical treatment. The project has provided spare uniforms to children in three state-run schools whose families were unable to afford more than one set of clothes; it has also arranged for Santa to visit another two state schools at Christmas.
We firmly believe that legal and medical help are a fundamental right that should be available to everyone, not just those who are able to pay for it. So do our participants, who now number almost 600.
